Yes, there's the cost of having the appropriate equipment, high quality chemicals, and high quality floor finishes, and of course, we have them, but that's not what I’m referring to.
I'm talking about the deeper cost.
I'm talking about the cost of dedicated focus, of hard physical on your hands and knees type of work, of acquiring knowledge, and an acute attention to detail.
And the drive to do it again and again until you can get it right.

Floor finishing is an art.
Like any art, with a little instruction you can get some results, but it takes years of practice and a dedication to excellence, to be professional at it.
A five year old can draw a picture, but they can’t draw like Michaelangelo.
The excellence is in the details, the prep work. Getting the floor clean and ready to apply the finish.

So yes, we have the large propane machines to strip the floor finish from large open areas, and the smaller electric scrubbing machines for tighter quarters, but it's the willingness to do the detail work with a scraper and a mop that takes a floor finishing job from average to professional.

Clean carpeting will improve your air quality

The importance of cleaning carpets is often misunderstood.
It’s often a stain or spill that triggers the call for a carpet to be cleaned. Don’t be fooled.
A stain is one of the smaller reasons to have your carpet cleaned.

Carpets have a reputation for harbouring allergens, and generally causing air contaminants.
This can be true,
but..
if they are properly maintained, they will work for you instead of against you.

Carpets are the biggest air filter in your facility.
Have you ever seen a dirty air filter?
They get filthy.
It's their job to catch and trap the dirt.

Carpets do the same thing.
They catch and trap allergens and dirt that is floating around in your work space.
If they are kept clean, they will improve your air quality
If they are allowed to become overloaded with soil, they will do the opposite and become a great habitat for dirt, mold and bacteria.

A second reason to be diligent about keeping your carpets clean is to preserve them.
Changing the carpeting, especially in an office setting, is both expensive and time consuming.
Keeping your carpeting presentable and functional for as many years as possible, is money well spent.
The dirt in the carpet grinds away at the base of the carpet fibres themselves, causing premature wear and destroys your carpet from the inside.

Carpets, especially deep soft carpets, are great at hiding dirt.
They are dirty long before they appear dirty.
The most important cleaning task to maintain your carpeting is thorough and regular vacuuming with a powerful commercial vacuum.
Then, on a scheduled basis, interim encapsulation cleaning can further remove stuck on soils.
Finally, at least once per year, your carpets should be washed and rinsed with professional hot water extraction methods.

When we clean anything, there are two processes required to get it clean.
The first is to loosen the dirt from whatever its attached to, the second is to remove the loosened dirt.

Cleaning solutions are used to loosen the dirt.
Then, the dirt is suspended in the cleaning solution.
If we leave the solution on the surface, the dirt remains also, and reattaches to the surface.
This is most obvious on surfaces like glass or mirrors.
Streaks on a glass surface is simply dirt that has been loosened and moved around, but not removed.
It happens in your carpets also, it's just not as obvious.
The more water you leave in the carpet, the more dirt is left behind also.
It’s important to have strong enough equipment to remove as much water as possible.
Powerful extractors leave carpets dryer, removing more of the soils.

If building security is important to you, you will want to consider the benefits of using a portable extractor.
Portable extractors have this advantage over truck mounts, they do not require an open door or window to run the hose through.

Entrance windows are often the first thing your visitors experience when they arrive at your facility.
...And they are often the most neglected item on the custodial to do list

Window cleaning separates those who know how to clean, from those who do not.
The foundation principles of quality cleaning, show up visibly on poorly cleaned windows.
Using the correct procedures, tools, and cleaning agents, this necessary task is made simpler and more efficient.

In addition to the ability to clean windows well, is the ability to reach them safely.
Our technicians use de-ionized water, and a water-fed high-mod carbon fibre pole, allowing our them to access windows 60 feet up, (that's 6 storeys high), while keeping their feet safely on the ground.

Terrazzo floors were made to shine

At one time Terrazzo floors were considered the toughest, best looking floors a person could install.
And there's no doubt they are tough.
There are many of these floors still looking their shiny best today, decades after they have gone out of favour for new installations.
These floors were originally polished until they gleamed. When the craftsmen who installed and understood terrazzo retired, many custodians began applying floor finish to them.
They didn’t have the knowledge or equipment to maintain terrazzo with the original polishing procedures.

Recent advancements in stone polishing technology have made it easier for custodians to maintain these floors the way they were intended to be cared for - by polishing them until they gleam - without the use of floor finishes.

Applying a stone densifier hardens the surface of the terrazzo, ensuring they will provide many more years of service.
Polishing terrazzo instead of applying a floor finish has many benefits. One of the biggest winners is our planet. Polishing completely eliminates the routine, chemical environmental burden of removing and reapplying floor finish.
This is one way that modern green cleaning companies are helping to improve our environmental future.
The great news is that the same stone polishing procedure works just as well, and looks great on concrete floors.
You can experience bare, polished concrete floors in many of our big box warehouse type stores.
Although there may still be some instances where concrete sealer is a better choice, for most applications polished concrete, with all of its environmental benefits, is the best option.
