At one time Terrazzo floors were considered the toughest, best looking floors a person could install.
And there's no doubt they are tough.

These floors were originally polished until they gleamed. When the craftsmen who installed and understood terrazzo retired, many custodians began applying floor finish to them.
They didn’t have the knowledge or equipment to maintain terrazzo with the original polishing procedures.
